CHILLIN' WITH PENGUINS !!!
Could you imagine living in a habitat that's freezing cold every day.Well, a well known bird that has wings and can't fly lives here in Antartica. This bird is called a penguin. Penguins bodies aren't ment for flying but for swimming. These birds are residents of Antartica as well as seals, orcas, fish ,shrimp, and krill. What do penguins feed on? Like other animals they search for their food . Penguins eat shrimp, fish, and krill, and penguins get eaten by seals and orcas. Winter is almost here the penguins mate up. A male inpresses a female by making music (singing) ,or a male can collect the most pebbles and win the female. When the mother penguin lays the egg she quickly gives the egg to the father. If they aren't focus enough the chick will freeze and die.The father keeps the chick safe and warm in a brood pouch. The mother is on a journey that takes 3 days to get there to find food. She stores some food in a special stomach that saves food for the chick. While the mother is getting food the father is huddleing with the other father penguins to keep warm in this harsh weather. The penguin in the middle is the warmest because the middle is about 90f that's warmer than an Antartica summer. The penguins rotate their positions so it's fair for all the penguins. The chicks have hatched and the mother finally returns from her fishing trip. The father penguin talks to the chick and calls for his mate. The mother finally hears the call. When the mother recieves the chick the father penguin goes out to get some food. Some penguin parents chick died during the winter. When they spot a chick with no parents their mates probably say" mama's gone mad. The reason why they probably say this is because they want to have a chick to look after. When the chick sees the mob of mothers he runs wouldent you. Do penguins have enemies? Even the innocent penguin does have enemies. The penguins natural enemies are orcas and seals(sea lions/lepered seals). The reason why penguins push another off is because if that penguin doesn't come up it has probably been eaten by one of their enemies. I guess penguins bodies can adapt to this extremely cold weather. by:Rachel A.
